Pre-purchase Education

If you think you're ready to buy a home, but are unfamiliar with the process, our Pre-Purchase Education class would be great for you!  The energetic class is suited for those who want to learn more about purchasing a home.  The class includes topics such as: what to look for in a home, working with real estate agents and lenders, creating and maintaining a budget, what happens at a closing, and what programs Bay Area Housing, Inc. has to assist you in your purchase.

Financial Management Counseling

Financial Management Counseling is an in-depth course of up to 6 counseling sessions for those interested in buying a home, but aren't quite prepared financially to purchase immediately.  Bay Area Housing, Inc. counselors will work with you on all aspects of financial management to boost your credit, balance your budget, and prepare you for homeownership within 12 months.  These sessions aren't for the faint of heart!  The key to successfully completing this program is personal motivation and the drive to own your own home. 

Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

The counselors at Bay Area Housing, Inc. know that the economy is tough.  They know that home owners can hit stumbling blocks along the way.  They also know predatory lending mortgage brokers took advantage of buyers who didn't know what they were getting into.  The counselors can help! 

If you are having difficulty making your monthly mortgage payments, you can protect your home, but you need to take action immediately by contacting Bay Area Housing, Inc.  Our counselors may help you keep your home and avoid foreclosure.  This counseling is available at no cost to homeowners. 

The very first step to take as soon as you miss a mortgage payment is to call and communicate with your lender.  Ideally, your lender will want to work with you and help you find a way to keep your home.  The longer you wait, the more difficult this will be to do.  If you are several months behind in your mortgage payments and haven't contacted your lender, they will assume that you do not intend to repay their loan.  Don't avoid your lender OR their calls.  DO take action and call Bay Area Housing, Inc. at (989) 686-6800.  Be prepared to discuss your problems honestly and in detail.
